Di Giannantonio restarts with Top3 and direct Q2 at Silverstone

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team secures a direct Q2 spot with Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is third on Friday of the British GP. Franco Morbidelli is fourteenth.

The comeback from the summer break was positive for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who was third and secured a direct Q2 spot on Friday at Silverstone. Franco Morbidelli’s second part of the season starts with a fourteenth place in the afternoon session, but he shows steps forward on the first day of the British GP.

In his first approach with the MotoGP after the summer break, Di Giannantonio was competitive again right away, and he finished FP1 in fifth place. Fabio confirmed to be a key player in Practice, as he improved his best laptime and showed a good rhythm. The rider from Rome ended his Friday of the British GP in third place and a 1’56”678 as his best laptime. The Top3 in Practice allowed him to secure a direct Q2 spot in tomorrow’s Qualifying.

It was a good restart for Morbidelli too, as he was in Top10 in the first free practice session. Franco confirmed to have more confidence in Practice too, staying in the top positions for most of the time. The Italian Brazilian rider improved significantly his best lap, and he ended his Friday with a 1’57”753. However, it wasn’t enough for him to be in Q2 and he was fourteenth, so he will have to go through Q1 tomorrow.

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team is back on track on Saturday for the Qualifying, which will start at 11:50 p.m. (local time, + 1 UTC), followed by the Sprint, scheduled for 4 p.m. (local time, + 1 UTC). The British GP will conclude on Sunday with the main race, which will start at 1 p.m. (local time, + 1 UTC).

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO
“It was good to be back on a MotoGP bike! This morning was tough. Despite the trainings, the effect on a MotoGP bike is always amazing! But I had fun. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, so the goal for today was to be as close as possible. We went back to the setup we started the season with, which had been working well, and we immediately had a good feeling. From there, we built our day step by step. At the moment, it looks like it's working really well. It was a positive day, and now we need to keep pushing and maximize our potential again tomorrow. We will give our best.”

FRANCO MORBIDELLI
“It was an intense day! We tried to keep our pace, and we could do it quite well. I had good feelings on the bike. Unfortunately, when we put new tyres for my time attack, I made too many mistakes, and we couldn’t pass to Q2. Anyway, the feeling is good, so are the performance overall. Today was better than usual, especially in terms of race pace. We just need to improve a bit on the time attack, but it was a positive day overall.”
