Unlucky start for Di Giannantonio in the Sepang test

MotoGP tests end earlier than expected for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who broke his left collarbone in a crash at the Sepang Test Day 1. He will fly back to Italy tonight to undergo surgery. Fifth place for Morbidelli.

The start of 2025 for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team was bittersweet in Sepang International Circuit, where the winter tests are taking place. Great feeling for Franco Morbidelli, fifth in the final timsheet, while Fabio Di Giannantonio, who was very fast on track with his new GP25, is forced to withdraw from the tests at the end of Day 1 because of the broken left collarbone due to a crash.

The start of the day was very positive for Fabio, he completed 49 laps with his Ducati Desmosedici GP25 and the fastest lap was in 1’58”265, seven tenths from the top of the timesheet. However, a crash in Turn 5 at the end of Day 1 ruined Fabio’s tests because of a fracture on his left collarbone. Di Giannantonio flies back to Italy today to undergo surgery in the next days.

Day 1 ends in a good way for Morbidelli, who was very quick from the beginning. Franco completed 56 laps and the fastest one was in 1’58”114, half a second far from the first position.

FRANCO MORBIDELLI - 21
“It was a great first day after the winter break. I started little by little, understanding my feelings with the new team. I had a lot of fun, trying to understand my feeling and what I need. The first day was positive, because I get along well with the team, and I was quick on track. The work is different when you don’t have the factory bike, but for sure we tried many things, it was an important day. I still have to understand many things, how I feel when I’m trying something, but to try is essential. I am sorry for Fabio, he was very fast from the start, I wish him a speed recovery, for sure he will come back stronger”.

ALESSIO SALUCCI, Team Director
“Unfortunately, Diggia’s crash at the end of the day compromised the final result of this pre-season first day, that was very positive for both riders until that moment. We are sorry for Fabio for this injury, because we know how much he’s been working during this winter in order to be ready to start the season. But that’s racing, he will undergo a surgery in the next days in Italy and we are sure he will arrive ready to the first race to keep working on what he started today. We are waiting for him to have a great season together and we wish him a speed recovery”.
